1. IRIS
“I feel lucky to be working. If you’re lucky enough to do something you love, everything else follows.”
Oh, Iris Apfel! I love her. She’s a free spirited dame of fashion who does what she wants with the sharpest wit. At 93 years old, with many decades of fabulous style behind her, it’s only natural that director, Albert Maysles, thought it was worth celebrating with a documentary. Finally showing in Montreal , IRIS is an ode to her creativity and her love of design and people.
Tavi Gevinson, Jenna Lyons and Bruce Weber are also part of the homage.
2. Mineral Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 by Aveda
My skin type? Sensitive times a thousand. The wrong product and then “Pop!” My pores are blocked the next day. Searching for the right foundation has been my holy grail, but I think I’ve finally reached the end of my quest. Oil-free, the Mineral Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 by Aveda produces a super light dewy finish that I love AND as you can see in the name, it’s SPF 15! This is exactly the kind of makeup that I won’t hesitate to wear during heat waves, and I have a feeling this summer is going to be a hot one.
3. Rhye
Magnificent, sensual and soothing: That’s how I would describe the musical duo, Rhye. The velvety voice of the Toronto singer, Mike Milosh – often compared to Sare’s – mixed with the melody of his Danish partner, Robin Hannibal, makes you want to stay in bed and watch the rain fall.
About a year ago, I saw them in concert and it was simply magical. Accompanied by a couple of musicians (a contrabassist, a saxophonist and every other instruments you would need to form a tiny orchestra), they played the incredible album, from beginning to end. Lights were dimmed and cell phones forbidden… Goosebumps alert!
I’m hoping this coming show on June 8 at the Corona Theatre in Montreal will be a close repeat. Until then, (re)watch this beautiful video.
4. Ancient Greek Sandals
This is a brand that I recently discovered while interviewing the owner of the boutique Les Étoffes, Diana (Interview coming up veryyyyyy soon on the blog). My boyfriend bought me a pair of sandals made out of pale blue calfskin for my birthday – my eyes filled with water as soon as I saw the box (and you thought I was lying when I told you I was emotional).
Their gorgeous sandals are handmade in Greece (duh!) with naturally tanned leather, meaning that they don’t use any chemicals during the production process. The founders Christina Martini and Nikolas Minoglou use Greek mythology as an inspiration for their minimalist, feminine, beyond-comfortable designs. These are sandals to make you feel like a goddess.
5. Dinner with Friends on the Terrace
Last night, I was invited by my friend to a lobster thematic backyard dinner. Taking place in her alley way, the evening was filled with a crowd of lovely people, unpretentious gourmet food and beer on tap, creating the summer night of my dreams. That sense of community and the beauty of hot summer evenings make me crave many more gatherings like this one. What about every weekend, you in? ;)
What are you up to this month? Anything you’re looking forward to?
