A Show You (Really) Don’t Want To Miss : Andra Day

Let say we forget about science for two seconds and we imagine Billie Holiday, Adele and Amy Winehouse having a baby. You will get Andra Day.

The San Diego-born artist was first spotted a couple of years ago, in a local nightclub, by none other than Stevie Wonder. After a viral video series of hit covers, such as Lose Yourself by Eminem or Mamma Knows Best by Jessie J, she finally released her first album in August. Since then, I’ve been listening to it on repeat, to a point where my neighbors probably want to kill me.

Her style is a little hard to define – soul, retro, R&B, pop – but that’s why you don’t get tired of her sound. Another thing that’s highly addictive? Her ridiculously powerful voice. Watch her first videoclip for the song Forever Mine directed by Spike Lee or listen to Rearview if you want to get a taste of what the fuss is about.

She’s giving a show tonight at Sala Rossa (in Montreal) and you certainly don’t want to miss that. I’ll be there (first row, singing, but not too loud) and I’ve convinced four of my friends that it was the best thing they could do on a Tuesday evening.  Still unsure? This gorgeous acoustic version of Rise Up should win you over.

See you tonight peeps!
