Whether you love or despise winter, it doesn’t matter. Your hair hates it. Windy days, constant shifts from hot to cold, static caused by your cute hat… Your mane is like: “Dude, I can’t take this anymore.”

So after doing all this wrong to your hair, you’re most likely into full-repair mode. Well guest what? I’ve got you covered. Here are 4 ways to kick back some life into your dead locks of yours.  occitane-very-joelle-paquette

Rethink your shampoo + conditioner duo

Let me drop the bomb: the shampoo and conditioner you’ve been using might not be your hair’s soulmates. Your hair evolves and changes – the products you use should follow the same cycle. At this moment, it’s probably on the weak side. Do yourself a favor and look for bottles with  the words “damaged”, “dry” or “thin” hair written on them.

A line that I love is the Repairing one by L’Occitane. The shampoo and conditioner are made with an anti-breakage complex composed with 5 essential oils (ylang-ylang, sweet orange, lavender, geranium and angelica). It’s also packed with almond oil, vitamin B5 and vegetal amino acids, all amazing for steel-strong hair.

Leave-in conditioner to the rescue

Lazy gals out there! Listen up. Leave-in treatments are amazing because they do all the work for you. Apply it on wet hair, not too close to the roots, and then you *cough* leave it in. Since you don’t rinse it off, it delivers ongoing moisture benefits while calming rebel frizzy hair.

This one by Aveeno is pretty cool – it untangles your hair thereby reducing breakage associated with postshower combing. The formula is also made to replenish severely damaged hair. So yeah, screw you winter.

Get on the hair mask wagon

Hair masks are like conditioners multiplied by 100. They make your mane stronger and so much softer. Personally, I apply it right after my shampoo and then I do all the other “shower things”. Shave my legs, exfoliate my skin, do nothing and relax… Then boom! It’s time to rinse it off.

Packed with argan and cottonseed oils, this creamy Mythic Oil number by L’Oréal Professionel is da thang. Its formula is based on oriental beauty rituals and it delivers all of its benefits in 3 minutes sharp. My hair feels like it’s reborn every time I use it.

Use oil as a post-care treatment

Ladies with fine hair, hold on a minute. I can already hear you say that oil weighs down your hair and makes it look like you rubbed it between two Big Macs. It won’t… As long as you use the right amount. Start with the tiniest drop and then add more if the need arises.

I’m a pretty big fan of Aveda in general. The scents, the benefits, the packaging: everything is always on point. Same thing with this daily moisturizing oil that’s part of their Dry Remedy line. The main ingredient is buriti oil, which comes from a palm tree called the “tree of life”. You got it, it’s super hydrating. It will smooth your hair’s cuticles, sealing in moisture and minimizing breakage.

How do you take care of your mane after a too cold and too long winter?

  1. I used to do a lot of hot oil treatments.. Now it is a matter of eating well, limiting washes (when I can get away with it) And Argan oils :) -Zaychishka
